what is WEKAF?
The World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (WEKAF) was formed in 1989 in Cebu,
Philippines, to promote the Filipino martial arts (FMA) via a sporting version
of eskrima (stickfighting) throughout the world.
how much is WEKAF membership and what do I get for it?
WEKAF membership costs £10. You are then eligible for entry into WEKAF tournaments
at local and national levels. You are also eligible for selection onto the
WEKAF GB squad enabling you to enter WEKAF tournaments world wide.
You will also have access to seminars and classes with many Grand Masters.
how do I qualify for the GB squad?
To qualify for the GB squad you must be a WEKAF GB member. You must fight in both
British championsips (or two named events picked by the team coach) and place 1st,
2nd or 3rd in both events or perform well against an established and rated fighter.
You must then attend and complete squad training.
what equipment do I need?
You will need head, body, arm and hand protection to take part in full contact
stick fighting. The head and body armour should be from a Martial Arts supplier
and designed for full contact stick fighting. Ice hockey protection can be used
for the other pieces of armour: gloves, forearm protectors, elbow
protectors, groin guards, leg protection etc. Aside from Ice hockey equipment
shops you can also get some very good deals on eBay for you armour.
Although sticks are provided at competitions, you will typically need your own
sticks for training.
where can I train?
There are a number of clubs throughout the UK that incorporate full contact
stick fighting into their syllabus. Please check our
